Father’s Day (Sonnet)

Father's Day, his sad day; bring your gifts,
He feels empty—no treat can cleanse his soul.
In moments shared, the burden briefly lifts,
Their smiles' light helps to mend the broken whole.

With cards and hugs, they try to ease his pain,
Special handshakes, silly faces—they try.
Through joy and tears, the family will remain,
Their love persists, even when he says goodbye.

Drugs are meant to help the troubled mind,
Darkness lingers, shadows won't subside.
His children’s love, a strength he hopes to find,
They tried—he said he tried, but still he lied.

The pain persists, but in a silent way,
He misses what he lost on Father's Day.
